The Children's Folklore Section of the American Folklore Society annually offers the W. W. Newell Prize, which includes a $100 award, for the best student essay on a topic in children's folklore, or a paper on children’s folklore from an emerging scholar. Published papers are not eligible. The prize committee particularly invites instructors to encourage students with eligible papers to enter the competition. Papers must be typed and double-spaced; on the first page, include the author's name, academic address, home address, e-mail address, and telephone numbers.

The deadline for each year's competition is October 16.

Please electronically submit papers to Lisa Gabbert at folklore@usu.edu
