Thomas Vennum, 1934—2017

Dr. Thomas Vennum, Senior Ethnomusicologist (Emeritus) of the Smithsonian Institute and eminent scholar of Native American traditional culture, has died at the age of 82.

His most notable published works include The Ojibwe Dance Drum (1982), Wild Rice and the Ojibwe People (1988), American Indian Lacrosse: The Little Brother of War (2007), and Just Too Much of an Indian: Bill Baker, Stalwart in a Fading Culture (2008).

An obituary for Dr. Vennum appeared in the September 27, 2017 issue of the Ashland Daily Press.
