As the opening date for the 2017 AFS election approaches, we have posted on the AFS web site biographical summaries and platform statements from each of the six candidates for three 2018-2020 seats on the Society's Executive Board and the two candidates for one 2018-2020 seat on the Nominating Committee. They are available at https://afsnet.site-ym.com/page/2017PreElection.

In their platform statements, candidates are responding to the question, "What are the greatest opportunities and challenges facing the AFS and the field of folklore studies, and how would you a member of the Executive Board or the Nominating Committee respond to those opportunities and challenges?”

We have invited all candidates to take part in the Candidates' Forum at next month's annual meeting in Minneapolis (Thursday, October 19, 4:15-5:15 pm, Ballroom 1/2), at which they will respond to further questions posed by the Nominating Committee. Secure online voting will begin November 1 and will continue through December 31. Those elected will take office in January.

The Executive Board thanks Nominating Committee members Joseph Sciorra (chair), Diane Goldstein, Olivia Cadaval, and Steve Zeitlin for their work to assemble this slate of candidates, and all the candidates for their willingness to serve the Society and field.
