We Celebrate Deceased Colleagues All Year, Not Only at Annual Meeting

Our memorial practices for deceased colleagues continue to evolve: we have now established an In Memoriam portion of the AFS Review, which will better support collective remembrances of those we have lost.

In the past, tributes were read at the annual meeting, then posted to a static AFS webpage. Now, we will post memorial texts as we receive them; once they appear in the AFS Review, any signed-in AFS member can use the "add comments" button at the bottom of the article to contribute additional memories or thoughts. We invite memorial texts for any departed folklorist at any time; please send submissions to AmericanFolkloreSociety@gmail.com.

In addition, we will continue our custom of memorializing all of our departed folklore family members at our memorial board and table, and a reading of remembrances of those who have died in the past year as detailed in our revised memorial procedures.

We're launching this new custom with tributes for six of our colleagues who have died since our last annual meeting; we've also moved all previous memorials into our new In Memoriam space.
