Below is a message from the co-editors of the Journal of Folklore and Education, Lisa Rathje and Paddy Bowman:

At a time of heated rhetoric and both heinous and heroic acts surrounding the topics of immigration, inclusion, and diversity, Local Learning chose the theme “Newcomers and Belonging” for Volume 4 of the Journal of Folklore and Education. It will be available as a free resource the first week of September 2017. We were developing a list of resources for this issue when current events dictated that we share them now; please visit the Local Learning website in order to access this list of resources.  Let us all work to highlight ways that educators in K-12, college, museum, and community settings are working positively and successfully with diverse learners. We condemn the recent acts of racism and white supremacy to which we stand witness in Charlottesville, Virginia, and we acknowledge the structural oppression that more invisibly creates walls, feeds prejudice, and creates ongoing inequalities in our schools, communities, and work places. Please look at the resources we have pulled together and let us know if you or your organization has others that we should consider adding by emailing Lisa at lisa@locallearningnetwork.org.

Best,
Lisa and Paddy
