Every few years, the Women’s Section sponsors croning ceremonies for women members of the Society when they reach the age of 50. The structure of these ceremonies has varied from time to time and involves elaborate costuming, ritual, joking, and singing. Croning provides a playful way of celebrating how women age and of celebrating senior women in the Society, while also recognizing the great importance of coming-of-age rituals.
The Women’s Section is now gathering names of women who are 50 (or very close) on up who want to be croned this year. The Croning Ceremony will be Friday, October 21, 9:00 pm, immediately following the Women's Section meeting in Miami.
