Attention, folklorists! How many of us work with our personal collections in situations like the one pictured here? And yet how many threats to archival materials can you see in this image? (Hint: A lot.)
Don’t be like this researcher! Do you want to stop the madness?
In the half-day workshop “Personal Archive Collections Management for Folklorists,” you’ll learn to defend your personal collections with common items that can be found around your home and office. Leaders from the AFS Archives and Libraries Section will teach you weird tips and tricks to store and manage your physical and digital materials, keep your collections safe while using them, document rights and permissions, and much, much more. We’ll talk about specific software and equipment you can find in everyday supply stores, but we’ll also dish on programs you can find for free online! Already feel like you’ve got your personal archives under control? We’ll share secrets from professional archivists on what they look for in collections coming to them for donation. We’ll also talk about ways you can pass along these amazing resources to the individuals and cultural communities you work with.
Did we mention that funds generated from this workshop go to the AFS Archives and Libraries Section to support section prizes, archival activities, and special events?
Join us in Miami this fall - you don’t want to miss this opportunity!
