The governing boards of the AFS and the International Society for Ethnology and Folklore (SIEF or ISEF) have acted to create a set of partnerships between the two societies. Initially, these include a recognition by each society of the other as a "sister society." In the coming months both societies will create a discounted-dues category for those who want to belong to both AFS and SIEF, and will take steps to connect AFS sections and SIEF working groups with related interests.
Starting at the 2016 AFS/ISFNR joint annual meeting in Miami, SIEF will program one session, and this provision will be reciprocal at each society's future meetings. In the longer-term future, the societies plan to share online resources and to consider joint meeting events, either at the level of cooperation between AFS sections and SIEF working groups, or at a larger scale.
