The Folk Belief and Religious Folklife Section of the American Folklore Society will again be running a silent auction at this year's AFS meeting in Long Beach, CA. The Section welcomes your donations to the fundraiser. If you're planning to attend the meeting you can simply bring your donations with you and deliver them in person (to the book room); if you aren't attending, other arrangements can be made to collect your donations.
Donations can be belief-themed or of general interest; they can be purchased new, previously owned, hand-made, repurposed, anything over which someone else might want to get in a bidding war! You will be provided with donation receipts for your tax records.
All proceeds from this silent auction fund the The Don Yoder Prize for the Best Graduate Student Paper in Folk Belief or Religious Folklife, with an honorarium of $500, and the William A. Wilson Folk Belief and Religious Folklife Undergraduate Paper Prize, with an honorarium of $250.
The Section is also looking for volunteers to staff the auction table in the book room. It's a fun way to spend a few hours at AFS visiting with meeting attendees, so please volunteer!
If you have any questions about donations, or if you'd like to volunteer to take a shift staffing the auction table, please contact Lynne McNeill (firstname.lastname@example.org) or Andrea Kitta (email@example.com).
