Anyone can contribute to the annual Memorial Board and Table, inspired by the many folk traditions that commemorate the dead during the month of October. Once again, AFS will provide a draped table and poster board, pushpins, and slips of paper for sharing remembrances for those who would like to make use of these items. The Memorial Board and Table will be located in the Centenniel Foyer of the Westin Long Beach Hotel, not far from the registration desk. It will be available from Wednesday at 3:00pm to Saturday at 12:00pm. We encourage you to bring photographs of the deceased, printed obituaries, flowers, battery-powered votive candles and other mementos in honor of folklorists who have died and display them on the Memorial Board and Table for the duration of the meeting. Memorials here are not limited only to those who have died within the last year, but can include beloved mentors, friends and ancestors in our profession who are no longer with us and whom you wish to honor. Please remember that food and live candles will not be permitted.

We hope the Memorial Board and Table will continue to grow organically, fueled by our memories and imagination, so we can remember and honor our beloved colleagues in community.
