Spend a day along the coast of southern California, with stops at favorite places to get away and restore the senses...
Take in architectural treasures, like the Moroccan revival tilework Adamson house on a spectacular site overlooking the Pacific, where surfers, lagoon birdlife, and big sky converge, then the glassed marvel of the Wayfarer’s chapel, nestled in the trees, on a cliff above the ocean. Ramble the Santa Monica pier (b. 1909), riding the Ferris wheel or the vintage carousel at Pacific Park, watching trapeze artists, buying a Route 66 trinket (end of the historic Chicago-Santa Monica motorway), and having a bite at the Italian Ristorante al Mare, Mariasol Cocina Mexicana, or Pier Burger. Explore the Native Chumash Village (a project of the Wishtoyo Foundation), situated on a four-acre historical site, a bluff in Nicholas Canyon County Beach (Malibu), and the only living Chumash cultural village of its kind in Southern California. Finally, enjoy delicious Vietnamese fresh spring rolls (nem nuong) as a late-afternoon snack from historic Brodard’s in Little Saigon
...all before returning to Long Beach and the opening of AFS 2015!
