The Society for Ethnomusicology has issued a call for nominations and applications for Diversity Action Program Awards. One program provides generous funding for undergraduates and graduate students to attend the annual SEM conference, as well as mentoring opportunities. Another provides a subvention for faculty or post-docs to publish their first book. All of the programs are aimed at those from groups that have historically experienced discrimination (e.g., discrimination in terms of race/ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, or disability).
Ethnomusicology tends to be open to multiple disciplinary orientations, so anyone who has an interest in music and culture will find the Society to be an intellectually welcoming environment—not just people who self-identify as ethnomusicologists. The nomination and application processes are very quick and easy. If you know of someone who might be right for one of these programs, please consider nominating them or passing the call along to him/her.
More information on the programs can be found here.
