The Public Programs Section of AFS has just released a draft of its “Advocacy for Folklore and Folklife Toolkit,” which explains how to advocate for public and academic folklore programs, funding, and collaborations. Segments of the toolkit include “How to Create an Advocacy Plan in Five Steps,” “Resources for Advocacy at Local, State, and National Levels,” “Creating Collaborations,” and “How to Work with the Media,” along with specific case studies of successful advocacy efforts. The section is seeking additional case studies, particularly on public/academic collaborations, local programs, statewide programs, and regional programs. Please send suggestions and examples to Sue Eleuterio at Sueeleu@gmail.com by June 1, 2015.
