AFS@MLA (American Folklore Society @ Modern Language Association) is soliciting papers and presenters for the 2015 MLA Convention in Vancouver, British Columbia January 8-11, 2015. The session topic is "Science Fiction, Fantasy and Folklore.”
Imagined worlds, alternate realities, different pasts and projected futures: Science fiction and fantasy has long drawn on the realm of folklore and folk narrative. One generation’s huldres and trolls is another generation’s aliens and androids. This panel will explore the intersection of folk motifs and structures with science fiction and fantasy literature, television and film from Star Trek and Philip K. Dick to The Hunger Games.
Please send a 300-word abstract and CV by 5 pm Pacific time Friday March 28, and be sure to include your name, affiliation and contact to Camilla Mortensen.
