At its April 11-13, 2013, meeting in Columbus, Ohio, the AFS Executive Board’s major activity was a two-day review of the Society’s current long-range plan and a first discussion of possible revisions to that plan for 2014-2018.

As part of its regular meeting agenda that followed this long-range planning discussion, the Board also:

  • Approved committee recommendations for the 2013 recipients of the AFS Lifetime Scholarly Achievement Award and the Kenneth Goldstein Award for Lifetime Academic Leadership
  • Approved a list of performance objectives for the Executive Director for 2013-2014
  • Approved the Executive Director’s budget proposal for FY 2014 (September 1, 2013-August 31, 2014)
  • Approved a request from the NewFolk@AFS Section to change its name to the New Directions in Folklore Section
  • Brought the Benjamin A. Botkin Prize, given each year for lifetime achievement in public folklore, into parity with AFS’s other two lifetime achievement awards by increasing the prize amount and by adding life membership in the Society to the list of the Prize’s tangible offerings
