The Division of Arts and Museums is currently seeking an individual to assist the Chase Home Museum Administrator on a part-time basis. The selected candidate will help with daily operations of the museum, including opening and closing procedures and staffing the reception desk. In addition to daily operations, the support staff will assist the Chase Home Administrator with exhibition planning and installation, supplement existing educational materials, and help manage the social media presence for the museum.

Anticipated responsibilities include:

  • Opening and closing the museum, which may include other facility administration
  • Exhibition development, installation, and de-installation
  • Improving and developing educational materials
  • Social media monitoring: writing, scheduling, and posting
  • Community outreach to surrounding residential area, broader Salt Lake City area, and to communities around the State of Utah
  • Promote hosted workshops, assist with tours and events

Required education level: Completed, or pursuing, a college degree in a humanities-based field

The hiring committee is seeking candidates with a strong interest in working at a community-based museum with previously demonstrated visitor services experience. Prior training or experience in cultural organizations or community arts programs is useful but not mandatory. Candidates are expected to have an investment in promoting diverse cultural heritage. The hiring committee is particularly interested in individuals with strong interpersonal skills who provide excellent written and verbal communication. Candidates should be self-motivated and expect to work independently. This is an excellent opportunity for someone interested in developing practical museum skills.

The incumbent is expected to work 20 hours a week, Monday through Friday during the museum’s winter schedule. The summer schedule, Memorial Day through Labor Day, will include later hours on Wednesdays as well as Saturday open hours. This is a paid, hourly position at $15 per hour.

The Chase Home Museum of Utah Folk Arts, a historic house museum, is located in the center of Liberty Park in Salt Lake City. The museum is an active space that features folk art by Utah artists.
