|2014 Annual Meeting: Submitting a Proposal Online|
Thank you for your interest in participating in the American Folklore Society’s 2014 Annual Meeting in Santa Fe, New Mexico. The deadline for submitting online or mailed-in proposals for the meeting program is March 31.
Don't register for the annual meeting until you have ready all the information required for your proposal type. The proposal form is only available once, right after your meeting registration goes through. If you leave the form before hitting "submit," you may have to register again to access the proposal form. In that case, contact AmericanFokloreSociety@gmail.com for help.
All proposal forms ask for keywords approved by the AFS Ethnographic Thesaurus that describe the content of the presentation (eg, genre, group, place and approach). See Using Keywords in Annual Meeting Proposals before you register and submit your proposal.
Proposals for Individual Presentations
Those who propose an individual presentation will, in one sitting, register for the annual meeting, submit payment, then submit the proposal. If accepted, individual presentations will be grouped with others in a two-hour session. Please click on the links below for instructions specific to each presentation type. (Note: We are not accepting individual poster proposals for the 2014 Annual Meeting.)
Proposals for Preorganized Sessions
The chair of a preorganized session submits all the information for the session. This means that the chair will register only him/herself for the annual meeting, then submit the proposal for the session, including the information about the session as a whole and the information about each participant. Please click on the links below for instructions specific to each presentation type. Chairs of preorganized sessions are responsible for requesting accommodations in advance for all the participants' audiovisual and scheduling needs.
Those who propose to participate in a preorganized session must:
Those who are proposing individual presentations or who are chairing preorganized sessions will register at the time that they submit the proposal.
Those who propose to present in a preorganized session but not act as chair should register before March 31.
Those who will not present may preregister online until August 31, 2013. On site registration will be available at slightly higher rates.
Student and low-income members of AFS enjoy considerable savings over nonmembers in meeting registration rates.
If you are not a member of AFS, why not join now to take advantage of the discount, and all the other benefits of membership? (Note: You can not join AFS and register at the member rate in one sitting: your membership must be manually approved by AFS staff before you can access member benefits; that administrative process may take a few days. You can sign in and submit your registration and/or proposal after you receive an email notification that your membership is activated. Join AFS by March 27 if you want to submit a proposal and register at the member rate!)
