6/29-31/12 New York: Beasts of the Southern Wild
From City Lore:
Beasts of the Southern Wild, directed by Benh Zeitlin, opens this weekend. As many of you know, he is City Lore’s Steve Zeitlin and Amanda Dargan’s son, and coeditor of the documentary, From Mambo to Hip Hop. You may also know by now that his film won the Grand Jury Prize at Sundance and the Camera D’Or Prize at the Cannes Film Festival. It opens at the Sunshine Cinema and Lincoln Plaza this week. Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, June 29, 30, and 31 are particularly important because ticket sales determine how widely the film will seen in other theaters and cities. We hope you’ll take a chance this weekend to see this wonderful feature film which Manohla Dargis in The New York Times called one of the best films to premiere at Sundance in two decades. A few days ago, Jonathan Caouette, also in the Times, described it as "fresh, passionate and disarmingly sincere contribution to postmodern Americana… a fantastical essay on the notion of place."
