6th German research meeting on South America, Mesoamerica and the Caribbean in Bonn

23 - 26 May 2013
„Las Américas – The Americas – Die Amerikas"

Invitation and call for papers:
We would like to invite you to the 6th German research meeting on South America, Mesoamerica and the Caribbean in Bonn. The Conference will be held on 23-26 May 2013 and is organised by the Department for the Anthropology of the Americas at the University of Bonn.

"Tendiendo puentes…”
Following the tradition of former events, the meeting will provide a forum for discussion for researchers working on North-, Meso- and South America as well as the Caribbean. Furthermore, the meeting is intended to stimulate interdisciplinary and interregional research in form of specific thematic workshops. We would like to build bridges between the different disciplines and regional research foci that are concerned with the geographic and cultural diversity of the Americas. We find great potential for research and discussion in interrelations of specific cultural phenomena through time and space, that is, from the archaeological cultures of the pre-Columbian era through the times of conquest and colonisation to the postmodern America of the 21st century.

This invitation is addressed to all faculty, students and academically affiliated researchers who engage in the study of the Americas. We invite contributions from a range of interdisciplinary fields including anthropology, ethnography, archaeology, history, cultural studies, sociology, political science, geology, media sciences, linguistics, literary studies, study of religions, cultural ecology, peace- and conflict-studies, medical anthropology, comparative law, musicology etc.

Please submit your paper proposals in written form directly to the workshop coordinators until 15/01/2013.

There will be a "two-role” rule, i.e. that each participant may take on no more than two active roles at the conference (such as present a paper and act as discussant, convene a workshop and present a paper, etc.)
