SIEF 2011: People Make Places - ways of feeling the world
The 10th international SIEF congress will take place in Lisbon, 17-21 April 2011.
With one day to go we've had 605 papers proposed to 77 panels/workshops...
The Call for films is now open and closes end-November.
Please read the theme and sub-themes and then view the full list of accepted panels and workshops.
A detailed timetable is now available.
Languages: SIEF is officially trilingual, allowing
presentations in English, French and German. However it is up to the
decision of the panel convenors as to which languages they will accept
in their panel/workshop. Certainly not all delegates will understand
French or German, so those presenting in other languages should have a
summary in English and possibly a print-out of the paper (in this
language) for those who struggle with the oral presentation, to follow.
In the first instance please contact the convenors of the relevant panel
and ask them if they are happy to accept a paper in a language besides
English.
Registration will open 1st December. Fees will be
€250 for non-members, €170 for members and €80 for students. This
includes three lunches, coffee during the breaks and the opening
reception. The conference dinner will be an optional extra. There will
be day-registrations available.
Accommodation will be in local hotels, and in some cases we have negotiated special rates for advance bookings. Read the information provided, then make your own booking directly.
Funding: SIEF has secured a small amount of funding
from the Wenner-Gren Fund which will be used to assist the participation
of scholars, with priority being given to those from lower income
countires. We will post an online application form, along with more
information, once decisions have been made over papers.
Excursions: these are in the process of being arranged and info will appear here in late-October.
All conference enquiries should be sent to congress(at)siefhome.org.
Venue
The congress will take place at the Faculty of Social and Human
Sciences of the Universidade Nova de Lisboa, Av. de Berna 26 Lisbon, in
central Lisbon. The keynote speeches will take place (in principle) at
the Gulbenkian Foundation, 5 minutes walk and on the same street as
the congress' main venue. The hotels will be within a 15 minutes walk
