Using the Proposal Submission Form
Share |

This year, AFS is introducing a new, external proposal submission system, built by Atanto, the provider of the well-received conference app at the 2016 Miami meeting. We believe you’ll find the new system more intuitive and easier to use, especially because it will allow you to save and edit your proposal at any time until the March 31 deadline.

As in years past, you will register for the meeting on the AFS website. AFS members should sign in first, in order to receive a significant discount on the registration fee.

We strongly suggest that you assemble all of your proposal information, according to the checklists provided for your proposal type, in a Word or text document; copy and paste the proposal information into the online proposal form. Avoid composing in the proposal form.

Find the Submission Form

Once you have registered for the meeting, you will get a confirmation web page and email, each containing the link to the proposal submission system. If you can’t find the link, contact AmericanFolkloreSociety@gmail.com.

Register/Sign In

The first time you use this proposal submission system, you must register with the Atanto website: use your email as a username, and create a password. Keep track of your sign in information, since you will need it if you wish to return to your proposal before the deadline. This system is separate from the AFS website, so your username/password combination may be different.

When you register for the first time, you will be prompted to complete your Profile information. If you ever wish to revise your Profile information, click on Profile under the green box in the upper right corner of the screen.

Start a Submission

Use the "Submit” button on the proposal system home page to open the proposal submission form. As you answer the form questions, the form will adapt to your answers to give you the next relevant question.

You can go "Back” or "Next” until the form is complete. If the "Next” button is grey and inoperable, you have missed a required field.

When you have entered your data in all the form fields, you will finish by clicking on the "Submit” button on the last page. You may hit Submit, even if you know that you must return to the form at a later time. When you hit Submit, you will receive a confirmation email.

You may return to revise your proposal even after you hit Submit. You will see your proposal when you sign in to the proposal website; click on the proposal title to re-open the form. Hit Submit on the last page again when you are done.

If you enter data but don’t hit Submit, your data will be saved. When you sign in at the proposal system website, you will see it listed as "Your abstract (not finished).” Click on the proposal title to return to the form.

You must hit Submit to complete the form by March 31 to be considered for the program. Proposals that are entered but remain "not finished” will not be forwarded to the program review committee.

Withdrawing a Proposal

If you simply wish to start over, sign in, open your proposal, and make any and all changes as needed.

Contact AmericanFolkloreSociety@gmail.comif you want to withdraw your proposal entirely.
