Each summer, the Society's Nominating Committee assembles a slate of candidates from the AFS membership for election to the various offices that will be vacant at the end of that year. Society members vote to elect new officers in November and December, and new officers assume their responsibilities in January.
The 2014 AFS
Nominating Committee (Sally Van de Water, Smithsonian Institution,
chair; Laura Marcus Green, independent folklorist; Selina Morales,
Philadelphia Folklore Project; and Pravina Shukla, Indiana University)
is beginning its discussions toward the formation of a slate of
candidates for the 2014 AFS election. They invite your recommendations
of possible candidates.
In this year's balloting, members will elect:
If you have recommendations of Society members whom the Committee should consider as candidates, please send them to firstname.lastname@example.org by May 15.
- One person to a four-year term as AFS President-Elect (2015), President (2016-2017), and Past President (2018)
- Three people to three-year terms (2015-2017) on the Executive Board that governs AFS
- One person to a three-year term (2015-2017) on the Nominating Committee
Committee will present its slate of candidates by August 1, after which
members will have the opportunity to add candidates to the slate by
petition. We will invite all candidates to participate in a Candidates'
Forum at this November's annual meeting in Santa Fe.
online voting will begin on November 15 and will continue until the end
of the year. Those elected will take office in January 2015.
