The Providence Warwick Convention and Visitors Bureau has created an AFS visitors' site at http://www.goprovidence.com/afs/. The site provides information about transportation, including planes, trains, automobiles and buses, as well as a guide to dining and other attractions.
Important Note: Brown University has scheduled its annual Family Weekend October 18-20, creating considerable demand for hotel rooms and restaurants for the Friday and Saturday nights of our meeting. We urge you to make reservations in advance whenever possible.
A Folklorist's Guide to Providence, prepared by Winnie Lambrecht with contributions from Bonnie O'Connor, provides and "insiders' guide" to attractions and dining in the area. A hard copy will be distributed with the program book at the meeting, but we urge you to make advance reservations whenever possible, especially for large parties and Friday and Saturday evenings.
If you're hungry and in a hurry, try Cafe Gusto on the second floor of the Omni, or the
Providence Place Mall, which is connected by skyway to the hotel; it
offers a variety of fast food options, mostly on the third level of the
mall. See http://www.providenceplace.com/directory/restaurants-eateries for a directory.
