|2013 Annual Meeting: Exhibitor and Advertising Information|
Exhibitors and Advertisers
The American Folklore Society invites publishers of materials of interest to folklorists in all media to reserve exhibition space at the Society's 2013 annual meeting, scheduled at the Omni in Providence, Rhode Island,October 16-19 (exhibit days are October 17-19). The theme of the meeting, on which presentations will be encouraged but not required, is "The Continuity and Creativity of Culture."
Produced every year since 1889, the AFS annual meeting is the largest professional gathering of folklorists in the world, bringing some 700 folklorists together each year for professional and social interaction. Registration and proposal numbers have grown steadily in recent years; last year our group of more than 20 exhibitors found our meeting to be a lively, engaged, and productive setting for sales, acquisitions, and networking. We expect another good turnout for our the 2013 meeting.
This year, we are introducing a schedule that builds in free time to allow participants more opportunities for informal engagement -- and browsing the exhibit room! General sessions will be offered during the day on Wednesday, October 16, in order to leave the 3:45-6:00 time slot open Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday. The change in the schedule will not affect exhibitors, except perhaps to increase late-afternoon traffic. The exhibit room will not open to the public until Thursday morning, as in years past, with time for set up Wednesday evening.
In order to increase traffic to the exhibit room further, we will schedule several other activities in or in the immediate vicinity of the exhibit room, including complimentary morning and afternoon beverage service each day for exhibitors and attendees, table-top presentations by a number of AFS interest-group sections, and perhaps a curated AFS thematic exhibition of poster presentations.
All exhibitors will receive a complimentary listing in the AFS annual meeting program book, but we encourage you to send your message to meeting attendees by reserving ad space in the book. All exhibitors will receive significant discounts (between 30% and 80%) on the purchase of display advertising space, and exhibitors who rent three tables will receive a half-page ad FREE!
